Before discussing code mixing, it's a good idea to know the meaning of code. Code is usually in the form of language variations that are actually used communicate members of a language community. Code language is a system language in a society. Code mixing is a translation and the equivalent of the term code mixing in English. Nababan explains Code-mixing is a situation in another language, that is, when people mixing two (or more languages) or variety in a language act (speech or discourse) without anything in the language situation demands the mixing of the languages. Code mixing occurs when a speakers of a language, for example Indonesian incorporates language elements region into Indonesian conversation. In other words, someone who speaks with the main Indonesian code who has its autonomous function, while the regional language codes involved in main code is fragments without function or autonomy as a code. A speaker, for example, who in language Indonesia slips a lot of fragments of its regional language, can you? said to have mixed code. As a result, a variety will appear Javanese-Javanese Indonesian (if the regional language is Java).

The form of mixed code contained in the film Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijk, as follows:

Zainuddin: “Baiklah kalaubegitu Jika awak boleh tau..siapa namamu?”

The above event is a code word mixing event in the form of a dialogue which carried out by the character Zainuddin, the inclusion of elements of the Padang language 'Awak' into the In Indonesian speech, the code-mixing function is the speaker means itself but in the language of the field.

MadeJamilah: “Zainuddin anakku sungguh malang nasibmu nak, bertandang di negeri sendiri tetapi tak dapat kesempatan untuk tinggal lebih lama disini.

“ Zainuddin :“Takapomak, mungkin ini sudah jadi takdir awak. Doakan sajo awak berhasil di PadangPanjang.

“ MadeJamilah :“Iyoanakku, amak pasti doakan ang supayo berhasil disana. Doa amak selalu menyertaimu.“

In the conversation above, Made Jamilah (speaker) uses Indonesian in full but answered by Zainuddin (speech) with the language the area is the language of the field. And the speaker answered again with language Padang.

This study discusses the mixed-coded language in the film Tenggelamnya Kapal Van DerWijk, it's interesting the code mix that happens in this film is in the form of insertion of fragments, be it words, phrases, clauses, baster, as well as idioms or expressions originating from the Indonesian language as well as regional languages (Padang and Minang). However, code mixing is not habits that help preserve the Indonesian language, it is feared that shift the function of the Indonesian language. In certain cases, mix the code unavoidable, that is, if foreign element flakes or areas are not owned equivalent words in Indonesian. The use of mixed code in novel writing can be accepted in the form of dialogue, which is requires a living written-spoken language. However, in the form of a description a writer needs to be careful not to just mix it up spoken variety (code mix) into written variety.
